Governance — Far West Nordic

The board sets Far West Nordic's direction, oversees its finances and programs, and stewards the organization on behalf of its members. Directors serve as volunteers. Far West operates under its Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, and files as a California nonprofit public-benefit corporation.

Ramsey Silberberg

Ramsey Silberberg strapped on her first pair of cross-country skis at age three in rural New England and has loved the sport ever since. Her only noteworthy nordic skiing accomplishment was consistently placing last in her afterschool club races. But her infectious joy while gliding through the snowy woods more than compensates for her lack of speed. A licensed landscape architect, Ramsey brings her background in design and business to improve the board's organization, and to strengthen communications and graphics to promote the organization's visibility. She is an enthusiastic community-builder dedicated to growing the reach of Far West Nordic to support athletes and community members alike.

Bruce Culbertson

Bruce has skied Far West races for the last thirty consecutive seasons and has also participated in a handful of Masters World Cups in Canada and Europe. Realizing that the leader has the worst view of the action on race day, Bruce always takes a position at the other end of the pack. However, skiing has bestowed on him the best prizes it has to offer: fitness, good health and the chance to meet many of his very best friends. On the Far West board, Bruce's goal is to do his part to attract new skiers of all ages to cross country skiing and racing so they can enjoy the same benefits he has.

Kurt Sable

Kurt was born in Truckee and raised in Kings Beach, CA. As a junior skier in the Far West he got to podium at local races while his parents also would be on master division podiums. He also was lucky to attend Junior Nationals for the Far West and went on to ski collegiately in Oregon and at the University Nevada, Reno, (when they had a Nordic team!). Kurt now lives with his family in Truckee and works for the Forest Service as a hydrologist. He likes to jump in races and now gets beaten handily by his son. Kurt would like to see Far West and cross country skiing thrive and grow. This sport will teach you about yourself.

Lisa Atwell Holan

Lisa is originally from Canada but ironically only found her love of nordic skiing when she moved to California in 2000 and discovered how fabulous the cross country skiing is in Truckee. Now it's a regular requirement for her sanity. She and her husband Jan strapped skis on their son's little boots when he was just two and he hasn't looked back since, now a competitive nordic skier heading off to ski NCAA in university. Lisa joined the Far West Nordic board in summer of 2025 to help support and promote xc skiing in our region, and loves working with the other passionate members of the board. She brings over a decade of board experience and oversight, and a data-driven background and sense of organization as a former scientist and lecturer in Ecology. You can find her on the white trails in winter and running the brown trails in summer with her beloved dog Taiga.
