Masters Challenge

The Master's Challenge consists of two fun and challenging season-long race series that identify Far West's most consistently fast Senior and Master racers (age 20 and above). In the Age-Group Competition, men and women compete against other skiers in their same age group. In the Age-Handicapped Competition, all women compete against each other in one giant competition, and similarly for men.

Racers must be Far West Nordic members to be eligible. Members are automatically signed up when they join or renew their memberships. We prefer you join early in the season but, if you join late, we are likely to be merciful and count your earlier races. A skier's age does not change during the season — their age on December 31 is used for the entire season.

Qualifying races: many race days include races of several distances. Generally, the longest race is the only one scored for the Master's Challenge, with exceptions for the California Gold Rush and the Mammoth Marathon.

Sierra Ski Chase

The Sierra Ski Chase, now in its 26th season, is Far West Nordic's way to encourage skiers of all abilities to participate in our region's races. The Ski Chase recognizes skiers who complete races, regardless of how fast they ski. Complete five races and get a prize! Whether you aim to win races or simply finish them, the Ski Chase is for you — an ideal incentive to ski more this season.

You must be a Far West Nordic member; all members are automatically entered. Complete five qualifying races (at least 5 km, in the Far West region) and earn a commemorative prize, typically a headband or t-shirt. If you ski at an extra-relaxed pace and finish after the timers go home, we'll still count your race.
